Updated 3 October 2026 · Halo: Desktop Island, Mac App Store edition

Halo is developed by Onur Ozan Sünger. For privacy questions, contact onurozansungerr@gmail.com.

Information kept on your Mac

  • Media: With your permission, Halo reads playback information from Apple Music and Spotify to show the current track or podcast and provide playback controls.
  • Clipboard: History is off by default. If you enable it, recent supported text and images are held in memory, subject to item and size limits. History clears when disabled, on display sleep or when leaving the session. Selecting an item writes it back to the system clipboard. Halo does not upload clipboard history.
  • Files: Halo stores local file-access bookmarks for items on the shelf. Files provided through drag-and-drop promises can be copied into Halo’s local application-support folder. The shelf does not upload files. Removing an item from the shelf does not delete the original file.
  • Screenshots: Pressing Screenshot captures one display image and writes it to the system clipboard. Halo does not automatically save screenshots to a folder or upload them. The clipboard may also be accessed by other apps or macOS features under their own settings.
  • Preferences: Display choices, timer state, permission-request history, lyric timing adjustments and other preferences are stored locally.

Lyrics and artwork requests

Lyrics are optional. When enabled, Halo sends the track title, artist, album and duration to LRCLIB over HTTPS to find matching lyrics. Results are cached in memory. Turning lyrics off stops new lyric lookups and clears the current lyric display.

When artwork is provided as a network URL by a player, Halo may download the image from that URL. LRCLIB and artwork hosts receive the requested information and normal connection metadata, including your IP address. These providers operate separately from the developer. Their logging and retention are not controlled by Halo; this policy does not promise that those providers keep no records.

Permissions

Automation access is used to read media information and control supported players. Bluetooth access is used to list paired headphones and connect to the device you choose. Screen Recording access is used for the one-shot Screenshot feature. Halo does not continuously capture system audio or video.

You can turn optional features off in Halo and revoke system permissions in macOS System Settings. Access to shelf files is granted through your file selection or drag-and-drop.

Developer collection and support

Halo has no developer-run account service, advertising SDK or automatic analytics uploader. The developer does not receive your clipboard, shelf files, screenshots or listening history through a Halo backend.

If you email support, the developer receives your email address, your message and any attachments you choose to send. Use the diagnostic-report preview to review its contents before sharing. Support correspondence is used to respond to your request and investigate the issue. You can request deletion of correspondence by emailing the same address, subject to any required retention.

Apple and this website

App Store purchases, downloads and platform diagnostics are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies and your device settings. These Halo support and privacy pages do not add analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Its hosting provider processes web requests and may retain technical access logs under its own policies.

Changes and your choices

Future changes to data handling will be reflected here with an updated date. You can disable lyrics and clipboard history, clear clipboard history, remove shelf items, revoke permissions or uninstall Halo. Contact the developer if you need help identifying locally stored files or settings.
